Are Daily Pages the Answer?

I’m going to just start off by saying… yes.

Why? What is the point of daily pages? Why in the world do I need to write every day. It leads to my question…. are daily pages the answer?

If you are a writer by profession or hobby, you can probably already guess how valuable this can be for your skills. But, is there more value than bettering your skills?

I heard a great review on daily pages from a podcast recently…”Easy Listening with Gina Grad And Teresa Strasser” about how it’s not just about getting you writing but something even more exciting!

As they put it — or maybe they are quoting someone else- daily pages before you start your day is a way to unclog your mind. It helps provide flow through the rest of your day and life. Well, that’s just fantastic, isn’t it?

And, so I am going for it. Today is my first day writing before I move forward with my day. No pondering or researching more! Just writing!

Thought I would start with a topic? I don’t know. I’m just spitballing to get things moving. (you can do whatever you want here in daily pages. some people might not be used to do that kinda thing!)

Anxiety

Anxiety. This is a popular topic of the day….at least in the US. I honestly don’t really know how people live in the United States without a lot of anxiety in their day.

We used to kind of live steady as she goes. But, I think 911 changed many things. (which is what the terrorists wanted isn’t it? to mess up our lives and make us more fearful)

Then it built from there. School and retail shooting that make me want to buy my own bulletproof attire just to get groceries. I am not kidding about this.

Poverty in America and homelessness. This is growing and expanding and what are cities to do to help? Some people do not want “help”. They make a good living begging on the corner and absolutely do not want to buy a house or spend tons of money on rent or living expenses. My neighbor has asked people that are homeless and these are the answers she is getting.

What I learn from this is looking desperate and in the need of help is a good business? Plus good location? Is this something I should try…yes this actually goes through my head now. Honestly, I am only afraid of what my family would say. But some people are making a good living!

The Pandemic is now a good addition to this overall anxiety. Do I even really need to say much about this. While the whole illness carries it’s own concerns, now it has morphed into should we get the vaccine? Should we wait and see how it affects people? Some even think they don’t need it.

Joblessness. An offshoot of the pandemic is joblessness. Shutting down and staying away from crowds has changed the landscape of the way people work and the way they want to work. It doesn’t even matter what the outlook is like. What matters is today. Many people do not want to be with other people right now in an enclosed space. Boy. Now all the jobs and businesses that employed these people are struggling. And, the jobs that employed people like me who work from home as a writer for example, will get more and more competitive. What do you do with this?

My own grown-up issues. I wake up with my own anxieties related to my own life, business, and family. Health concerns outside the pandemic. Business and work jitters. Doggy stuff. Family push-pull. Household projects that never end. Need I go on?

And there you have it.

Are Daily Pages The Answer?

I wrote my first daily page. LOL — I can’t say I feel any better than when I sat down.

Except maybe I do? I had something on my list and I did it. (Yep, kind of a list/check-off kinda gal. A girlfriend calls me the taskmaster. Ha! She’s so funny! 🤪)

And, now I can move on with my day while I think about what I will write about tomorrow. Anxiety is a pretty good topic so I might continue to revisit it more in-depth. Honestly, it’s probably an endless topic.

Do you think you will incorporate Daily Pages and Writing into your life?

Cheers! 🥂
