You Need A Laptop for Business

Do you find you’re not getting enough work done as a small business owner? As an entrepreneur do you often think…. “I can not do enough work to accomplish this thing!”

A lot of people talk about doing less work, taking care of themselves, and making time for your family. But, very few people talk about trying to cram in more work in your day. You cut off your day at 5 or 6 to make room for your personal life, but if you want to make shit happen for your business you should really be working more hours. It’s a tough spot I think most entrepreneurs find themselves if they are married/with a family.

And, maybe you want to work more, but you just can’t fit anymore in without ruining the other important stuff in your life.

That’s why I got a laptop. A good laptop. My business is built and lives on the computer, online, and in my head. I write and create content for a living. I manage marketing projects for other small business owners. It’s fantastic to be able to do this. Work from home, but not having to be a farmer. I really suck at any kind of gardening. Run your own gig and do it from home! Being home more makes my life easier and better all around. Plus, I can help others at the same time!

Anyway, back to the laptop. This is how I brought my personal life and my business life together. This little portable computer makes it possible for me to up my work game. My big time suck for my business is creating content for it. Writing, writing, more writing, and creating graphics. And showing it all off the best I can.

Waiting until I had time to get to my desk actually made my life harder.

I was always stressing about it. I need to get back to my desk, but I want to be with the fam. I need to do… blah blah, but it’s family time!

Working while hanging out is now possible. A little laptop computer makes that all possible. I can be around, but I can also be typing away. If someone asks me a question, I can respond. I can put the computer down and help with a kitchen task or let the old dog in from outside. I guess the best part is I’m not chained to a desk. I’m not stuck in the back of the house where people have to yell to you in order to reach you, but I can still do my job.

Now, I’ve had laptops before. And, I bought a cheap laptop last year. I really just need to write content, right? I can always move the content to my other platforms later. Well, later never came. I created the content, but then it just sat there. When I got to my desk, other stuff got in the way and I took care of other business.

The laptop seems to be the content creator station on the go. I don’t really do anything else except write and then publish that content when I’m on here. That last laptop was ok for a short time, but in the end, it just kind of sucked.

It was a windows machine and… well, I had a really hard time even making it go. The OS would often barge in and tell me I needed to upgrade or buy stuff I didn’t need. Getting the message to go away and let me back into my computer required new skills and time. The Windows OS was super difficult to maneuver and find stuff. Really difficult. I often walked away or shut the machine annoyed. And, then thought it was me. LOL.

Plus, the screen was awful. Awful! I could never get it bright enough to work on it in a room that wasn’t 1/2 dark. I certainly couldn’t take it outside. Come on… I’m writing. I’m on a laptop. Why in the world should my only work option be in my closet?!

The whole point of the laptop is to take it where you want. Take it with you so you can work anywhere.

So, this year, I finally broke down and bought a Mac 16 inch. It’s like my 4th Mac machine. I’m well aware of how superior they are as a computer. They certainly cost way more. But, I’m already pumping out way more content than I ever was before. And, that’s what really matters. These are the results I was looking for and there you have it. I’m pretty happy with it!

It’s the perfect ending for a marketer to talk about the benefits that the laptop computer brings to me.

  1. I get way more done in a day than I did before.
  2. I don’t think there needs to be a step 2. Step one is what I wanted. What I needed and now I have it!

Do you work from a desktop and a laptop?

If you’re thinking about getting a laptop and you’re on the fence about it, save the money, borrow the money, just make it happen.

If your lack of time is holding you back in your business, consider a movable computer you can work on while hanging out. I think you’ll find it very worth it!
